Machine tending: a task for collaborative robots
Automating the loading and unloading of machines is one of the main applications for collaborative robots — and for good reason: Thanks to integrated collision detection, cobots can share the work space with humans even without a protective cage, which enables efficient collaboration in tight spaces. In addition, there is a very simple operation, which also allows employees without programming knowledge to operate the system after a short briefing and set up new workpieces. This makes the robot solution also suitable for processing various small series.
High flexibility and short cycle times
If there is no explicit interface to the machine, we can simply establish communication between the robot system and the machine with a signal converter. In addition, the machine requires a fully automatic door, if this is not available, we can simply retrofit this as well. A double gripper also enables short cycle times by simultaneously loading and unloading the machine. The workpieces are usually provided according to a defined pattern, but it is also possible to pick them up chaotically (bin-picking) or only at a defined position (e.g. using a slide).
